Key Stage 3 Senior Challenge: Climate Change

On 6th November Governments from all over the world met at the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27), in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, to discuss ways in which they can limit global temperature rises and adapt to the impacts associated with climate change. A new report from the United Nations on climate change puts the world on track for around 2.5 degrees celsius of warming by the end of the century.

So what can Governments and individuals do to reduce their carbon footprint and what impact will this have on global warming?

Project Aim

Suggest ways in which individuals, businesses or governments can reduce their carbon footprint.

Project steps

  1. Research the different causes of global warming. What is the impact of these activities on the environment? How can individuals, businesses or governments reduce their emissions or carbon footprint? Speak with your friends and family to get ideas.

  2. You must work individually.

  3. Your project will need to reflect 5-10 hours of work.

  4. Think about how you want to present your project. Try to be creative and imaginative. This could include:

  • A written report

  • A powerpoint presentation

  • A model

  • A poster

  • A booklet

  • A short story

  • A short film

  1. Complete a project diary detailing what you do each day and what research sources you use (websites, books, people you have spoken to etc).

  2. Importantly, enjoy the experience of finding out something new about this topic and working in depth on one piece of work.

  3. Reflect on the project.

  4. Share your project and new knowledge with your family and friends.

Projects should be handed in on Wednesday 4th January
